Teachers from the Trenches: What is you Social Bookmarking URL? How do you use social bookmarking and why? Why should these future educators in my class use social bookmarking?
Future Teachers: What is the URL of your new site and tell us what you think so far.
I agree! It is quicker and more effectively to access my delicious or Diigo account to find a reference or resource from my Professional Learning Network.
General online searches no longer seem as effective for me when I am looking for educational resources. They definitely are more time-consuming.
Looking forward to collaborating online by networking with each other on either bookmarking site.
I have used del.cio.us since the days it had a cool URL. I find it helpful to save bookmarks for myself, then they are available when I am working at someone else's computer. This is also an easy way to transfer bookmarks between browsers.
As I've stated elsewhere, I'm not really good at the social part of networking. I am a fan of a few cool people that are active in areas of interest to me (wfryer, bentleyr, glennw98).
The best part for me is that it doesn't require a huge investment of time to keep up. It does pay to get organized. Use tags. If you are part of a group that wants to share information create a unique tag for your group and get everyone to use it (the toughest part).
Rod, I can always recognize someone who has used del.icio.us for quite a while. They always note the unique url. I love it.
Keeping up with my Professional Learning Network is not always my strong suit either, but I have added you to my del.icio.us network. Glad to see you here.
So many teachers in the trenches spoke to their use of del.icio.us and Diigo, I will only add to their comments.
del.icio.us is a pure social bookmarking site. You can access it quickly without interference from the social aspects, so I believe that may be why some people like it best. There are times when I use del.icio.us for searches.
Diigo is a social bookmarking site with many study/teaching tools built into the interface. Highlighting, sticky notes, etc can be added to the bookmark and its comments. I like Diigo for those reasons, plus I like to keep up with what my peers are reading and reacting too in their professional development.
YOU CAN bookmark TO BOTH del.icio.us and Diigo and bookmark SIMULTANEOUSLY. There is an add-on for Diigo that AUTOMATICALLY sends your Diigo bookmark and comments to del.icio.us. That way you are maintaining an accurately, updated shared bookmarking system in Diigo and del.icio.us. Michael Richards, a technology integrater, wrote the directions for Allowing Diigo to Play Nice with del.icio.us.
I chose to do my thread over the old lady how swallowed a fly. I did not talk about the whole book but I got some of the pages on there and some activities that you could do with this book. http://voicethread.com/share/212273/
