This was really pretty simple to do. I do not know how good or interesting of a field trip this will be because it is on Salina, Kansas (where I currently live) and it is pretty boring here! However, I used google docs and it reminded me very much of PowerPoint and seems to have the same capabilities and options. This is another great resource tool for teachers to be able to utilize for classroom instruction. Here is my presentation on Salina, KS: http://docs.google.com/Presentation?docid=dfsv3hhb_1hbn67mct&hl=en

My presentation never got published for public view, so I finally figured out how to publish it to a website, so here is the published address http://docs.google.com/Presentation?id=dfsv3hhb_1hbn67mct

I thought this was a great activity. It is such a neat way for students to experience all types of field trips without leaving the classroom. I traveled to Bangkok, Thailand last year with my husband because he had a business trip. I took several pictures and one short video while there, so I decided to create a blog for my electronic field trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

Here are just a few standards

Technology

c. develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures.

Geography: The student uses a working knowledge and understanding of the spatial organization of Earth’s surface and relationships between peoples and places and physical and human environments in order to explain the interactions that occur in Kansas, the United States, and in our world.
Benchmark 1: Geographic Tools and Location: The student uses maps, graphic representations, tools, and technologies to locate, use, and present information about people, places, and environments.
3. (A) identifies major patterns of world populations, physical features, ecosystems, and cultures using historic and contemporary geographic tools (e.g., maps, illustrations, photographs, documents, data).

Another great project! I had tons of fun making this project. I should explain, I wanted to create a virtual fieldtrip of Oklahoma City, because this is now my home. I moved here about a month and a half ago, and well it's all new to me, and it's like I am going on a field trip everyday that I venture out. I included some of the things that my husband and I have done already, and then included all the fun filled things there are to do here in this BIG city. I also put in some historical facts and kind of a layout of how big this city is and what a metro city is. Hope you enjoy!

I enjoyed this project. It was easy to do. I enjoyed looking at Hoxie and that I am able to share the town with others. There is nothing at all to do in this town, but it is a nice town. I have lived here for two and half years. I sometimes for get that things are closed on the weekends or that things close at 7pm. In Hays and Salina there was all ways things to do and places open past 7pm. Hope you enjoy.

Having grown up in Western Kansas, I went to Castle Rock a number of times. I never realized, because there was a sign along the highway, that people didn't visit this place very often. Students need to realize that there are things in Kansas that are interesting and worth seeing. I chose to do a field trip on two of the Eight Wonders of Kansas. The reason I did two was because there is also Monument Rock just west of Castle Rock and they were formed around the same time. I did my Field Trip in a voice thread. I did put the websites from where I got the pictures but I couldn't figure out a way to put wording on the pictures to get some attention. If I had to do this again i would try something a little different. I decided to use the sixth grade standards. Geography , benchmark 5, indicator 2. Since these were caused by erosion and have been damaged by natural occurances, I think students should see why and how this happened.

This one was pretty difficult for me. I decided to use LetterPop, but think it may have been easier to use Googledocs. In addition, I live in a really small town and it seems there is not a lot of information to explore. I do think that this is a really good idea for teaching. I was really interested in the podcast from last years teacher conference about how they are creating virtual field trips to countries around the world. Even though I struggled, I think that this is a great tool and is worth the effort to incorporate into the classroom.

At first I thought, what in the world will I say about Andover, KS? I actually had fun finding the history of Andover and putting this together. I used letterpop for another excuse to practice with it.

I took advantage of the fact that I live in the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. I interviewed the director of the birthplace museum, and I filmed a walk-through tour. I also added some video from YouTube. I put the info in a Movie Maker file. I ended up with a 26 minute movie, which I had to cut into three parts of 10 minutes a piece or less. I am currently trying to upload part two to YouTube and it is taking forever, but parts one and three are already available on YouTube. I'm reflecting now, since it could take all night to get part two to upload.

The standard is the 4th grade History Standard, Benchmark 1, Indicator 1 which is: The student researches the contributions made by notable Kansans in
history (e.g., Dwight David Eisenhower, Alf Landon, Amelia Earhart,
George Washington Carver, Robert Dole, William Allen White,
Langston Hughes, Carry A. Nation, Black Bear Bosin, Gordon
Parks, Clyde Cessna, Charles Curtis, Walter Chrysler, Wyatt Earp).
It was fun and interesting, plus I learned more about Movie Maker this week than I ever wanted to know. But, I must say that I've spent more time on this than I have on any other project for a while. I've been slightly consumed.
The following are the addresses for parts one and three and I'll add part two when it finishes uploading:

Part One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilmlknxSTc4
Part Two: STILL UPLOADING
Part Three: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxlJU4Qe1So

I enjoyed watching all the different ways and ideas the class used to create thier virtual field trips. (Amy I just live South of you a few miles, I go to Salina all the time!) This is such a fun, inventive way to catch student's attention! I used voicethread to complete my field trip. Are you ready class, we are going to Lindsborg, Kansas home of the Swedes and the Vikings!

This was fun, Hays is soo full of history I actually had fun with this re learned our towns history and how we became about. I got the opportunity to go to Grave Yard Converstations and here about actually stories of soliders and civilians who lived in Fort Hays, I took video of it and was unable to put it in my voice thread because it was not free to add videos BUMMER, anyways I hope you enjoy this. I think children will have a blast looking and learning about others field trips and its a great educational experiance
